The above paragraph offers profound messages about what leaders need to do to ensure that their organizations prosper. Here’s what we learn from this paragraph:
- If someone had told you that you can still read if all the letters are scrambled would you have believed it? Didn’t they tell us how important spelling was when we were at school? The new economic reality requires that we think differently. We need to break free of dogma if we are going to be capable of thinking, planning, visioning and strategizing in a lateral and enlightened way. We need to let go of traditional and rigid behavior and beliefs.
- We need to understand how our brains work. When we use both sides of our brain – (the quantitative and logical left brain and the qualitative and emotional right brain) – we can make 1+1=3. Why would we want to do that? Because this is how we think creatively and discover innovative solutions. 1+1=3 thinking is about breaking free of dogma so that we are able to see possibilities and opportunities that we were not able to see before. - We must learn to play with the boundaries not within the boundaries. This means letting go of illusory beliefs about what we can or cannot do; should or should never do; must or must not do; what is logical or illogical.
- We need to realize that life is not made up of polarities. We believe that these polarities exist because they taught us this at school. We need to stop thinking in black and white terms as though everything is right or wrong; better or worse; acceptable or unacceptable … (I could go on forever).
- We need to become aware that every event is neutral in nature until we label it as being negative or positive. It is our ego that does this. It is the ego’s way of feeling important. The confident spirit of who we are at the core of our being does not need to get a sense of importance by labeling people or events. Instead the spirited part of us has the humility to be objective and then look for opportunities that will benefit all parties concerned.
- So my request is please don’t label this blog … as silly or as great. Just have fun with it and share it with others so they can explore this way of thinking too. Something good may come of being easy with this, you just never know.
How do we free ourselves of our own need to cling to the way it ‘is supposed to be?’
We need to acquire just 2 skills:
- Learn to use the side of the brain that you do not enjoy using. If you are left brain dominant learn how to tap into the information in your right brain. And vice versa. Or you can simply identify someone in your team who thinks differently to you and ‘pick their brain’ before making decisions.
- Learn how to recognize and manage your insecure ego so that you are free to think in a spirited and panoramic way.
Our two brains are truly amazing so let’s use our natural genius to get us out of this recession and create a strong and sustainable economy that is the envy of the world!
